Camp Rainbow.jpg

“We are thankful for the generous funding from the Flutie Foundation so our child can experience the enjoyment and possibilities of summer camp like other kids.”

Summertime for many children is their once-a-year opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. They learn how to tackle new challenges and feel part of a welcoming and engaging community at summer camp. Children with autism especially benefit from a variety of camp opportunities, which help them maintain and improve their social skills while not in school. We know just how important these experiences are given the number of funding requests we receive from camps themselves and from families applying for assistance through our Joey’s Fund program.

Through a grant from the Flutie Foundation, Vermont Family Network is helping kids attend both inclusive and specialized summer camps as well as participate in aquatic, equestrian and other therapies. While over 50% of their funding from the Flutie Foundation is helping families pay for summer camps this year, the Vermont Family Network also grants money to families to purchase equipment, respite care and to attend workshops or conferences planned for caregivers of people with autism.
